amazing driftwood sculptures

73001
Driftwood has this charm that makes it beautiful on its own, but artist Jeffro Uitto tames this natural art medium to create amazing, large-scale sculptures.  A Washington-based artist who has been working with wood ever since high school, Jeffro collects the driftwood for his sculptures on the shores of Tokeland, the banks of Smith Creek, or the valleys between the Willapa Hills.
It can take Uitto months to find the right piece and the sculpting portion can take years. Once the driftwood is sourced, he carves and saws them together until he creates incredible works of art. Interestingly, many of the tools he uses are handmade by the artist himself.  While his gallery shows some gorgeous furniture pieces like throne-style chairs and gnarled benches, it’s his Big Projects section that really demonstrates this artist’s talents. Most impressive are his large animal sculptures like the Sea Horse that looks as though he’s just about to take off, galloping across the beach.
