When you think of French food, smelly cheese and grapes are probably the first things that come to mind. As is pasta at the mention of Italian cuisine, or curry when asked about Indian gastronomy.
So it’s not hard to see why these commonly associated foods have been plated up alongside others to recreate some of the world’s national flags in a collection of photographs. Australian advertising agency WHYBIN/TBWA created a creative campaign for the Sydney International Food Festival using flags made out of food representing native cuisine for each of the countries. Italy – Basil, pasta, and tomatoes Australia – meat pie and sauce Brazil – banana leaf, limes, pineapple and passion fruit China – pittaya/dragon fruit and star fruit France- Blue cheese, brie and grapes Greece – Kalamata olives and feta cheese India – curries, rice, and pappadum wafer Indonesia – spicy curries and rice (Sambal) Japan – tuna and rice Lebanon – lavash, fattoush and herb sprig South Korea – Kimbap and sauces Spain – chorizo and rice Switzerland – charcuteries and emmental Thailand – sweet chilli sauce, shredded coconut and blue swimmer crab Turkey – Turkish Delights (Lokum) United Kingdom – scone, cream and jams United States of America – hot dogs, ketchup, and mustard or cheese
Vietnam – rambutan, lychee and starfruit
