Purple turkey, green corn, blue crackers? Looks delicious. Or not. California-based photographer Lawrie Brown highlights the effects of food coloring on our eating preferences and perspectives through her unappetizing ‘Colored Food Series’.
She takes regular meals like pasta, toast, and cereal, and dabs them with vibrant, unnatural colors using latex house paint, presenting us with a different kind of food photography. Many, if not all, will find these meals bizarre and generally not the type you’d label as food porn. If these weirdly colored dishes make you a bit queasy, just think of all the other things we eat that go through so much food coloring processes in industrial food production.
