capturing california vibes

When UK photographer Garrod Kirkwood travelled to America recently to shoot Samuel L. Jackson for a brand campaign, he took the opportunity to travel around California, documenting his experience and the people he met. The resulting series, aptly named Americana, follows his quintessential style – all soft muted colours, simplicity and laid-back cool – capturing the heart of America’s Golden State.
Based in the North East of England, Garrod carried out a Foundation Degree in Commercial Photographic Practice at Newcastle College. It was from there that he went on to assist one of the most highly acclaimed advertising photographers in the UK – and this was just the platform he needed to find his own style.
With a subtle color palette in mind, Garrod portrays landscapes and people in perfect harmony. Working predominantly on location, he has a natural talent for capturing personality in his subjects and surroundings. Now with over 10 years experience in advertising, his commercial work has seen him travel extensively.
Building up an array of clients and creative commissions, his portfolio showcases his ability to create both beautiful personal work and ads-a-like. From concept to reality. His distinctive photographs have been highly awarded, scooping many Shot Up North, PX3 and International Photography Awards over consecutive years. Represented by Morgan Lockyer, you can discover more of his appealing photography at www.garrodkirkwood.com.

Tom Foerstel

Founder & President

Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 60’s, Tom developed a strong desire to create positive change for people and planet.

He went on to pursue his passion for art and design at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, and worked for design firms in Southern California before moving to Boise, Idaho in the early 80’s. Foerstel Design opened its doors in 1985. Since its inception, the firm has cultivated a bold, happy, forward-looking team focussed on creating distinct and effective work on behalf of their clients.

An integral part of Tom’s philosophy is giving back to the community in which he lives — a company cornerstone that drives Foerstel’s long history of providing pro-bono services to local non-profit humanitarian and arts programs.

One of Tom’s proudest personal achievements is his ability to say Supercalifragilisticexpyalidocious backwards.
