As opening week begins for the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival, we’re excited to highlight a project that set the tone for this season’s storytelling.
FPM partnered with the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival to create a custom cover illustration celebrating the two productions featured this year—Macbeth and Robin Hood.

01. unique storytelling
Every season at the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival brings together powerful storytelling, but this year presented a unique creative opportunity: representing two very different productions in one unified composition.
On one side of the illustration is a portrait of Macbeth—dark, intense, and symbolic of the tragedy’s psychological depth. On the other is a full-figure depiction of Robin Hood, energetic and heroic, representing adventure, justice, and folklore.
FPM approached this contrast intentionally, using composition and visual balance to ensure both characters felt equally important while still maintaining their distinct identities.

02. a theatrical palette
Beyond the characters, the setting played an equally important role in the design.
The illustration uses a palette of deep blue-greens paired with vibrant pink accents, reflecting both the natural environment of Lake Tahoe and the energy of live performance under the open sky.
These colors were chosen to echo the lake’s reflective waters, the surrounding forest landscape, and the dramatic lighting often experienced during outdoor theater productions.
The result, a layered illustration that blends theatrical character design with landscape-inspired artistry, creating a visual identity that feels timeless and distinctly tied to place.
